Indian Fashion Brands SS 2014 – VR Surat

dumas-square-banner-new

Hot town, summer in the city
Back of my neck getting dirty and gritty
Been down, isn’t it a pity
Doesn’t seem to be a shadow in the city
All around, people looking half dead
Walking on the sidewalk, hotter than a match head
But at night it’s a different world
Go out and find a girl
Come-on come-on and dance all night
Despite the heat it’ll be alright
And babe, don’t you know it’s a pity
That the days can’t be like the nights
In the summer, in the city

Spring Summer Fashion Trends for 2014 has been the crux of my recent blog posts. The idea was to scout the runways and the celebrity styles , both internationally and within India , and then create a post which could inspire other fashionistas to pick and choose from it. While doing so , I also checked on how Indian brands are placing themselves with these Fashion trends. India being a country full of colors, it was no rocket science to figure the bright color palette. Trends like prints , sheer , pastel etc were high on radar encapsulating more of maxi and palazzo as their staples. The three brands that will catch any Indian Fashionista’s attention will be BIBA, Global Desi and AND for the optimum usage of bright colors, quirky prints and cleverly infusing season’s trends that would suit Indian demographics.

My earliest memory of prints would date back to the time when as a child I would see my maa getting dressed up in a printed chiffon saree from Garden Vareli. Prints for me back then were synonymous to it being floral prints. Let me tell you, my individual style has been more of solid colors and no prints. Yet, lately I have developed a penchant for quirkier prints and strong color blocks. No wonder I was kind of attracted to the hot pink Palazzo put up on the BIBA’s latest SS 2014 collection. Bold colors, tribal to quirky prints and breathable fabric – ultimate fashion solution for hot summers in Gujarat.

Biba SS 2014 – Tuk tuk printed Hot pink palazzo in summery cottons

Biba SS 2014 – Tuk tuk printed Hot pink palazzo in summery cottons

MyStyle tip – I will team this “tuk tuk” printed palazzo in hot pink color with tops in ivory or indigo blue for a casual look through the day. They will be perfect for a brunch or movies session. I could team it with silk tops for the luxe feel for evening . My favourites in accessories would be Kolhapuri chappals in different colors, quirky stack of bangles and silver junk jewellery.

BIBA SS 2014 – Indigo Blue Leheriya long skirt

BIBA SS 2014 – Indigo Blue Leheriya long skirt

Long boho skirts is one other trend to watch out for this summer. Much of the movies that were shot in Delhi brought back this Delhi university(DU) dressing vibe available to the whole country. It would be just a common sight to see a DU girl dressed in a long skirt with cotton tops, stole around the neck, bangles, junk jewellery and Kohl ( Who am I kidding, most art colleges have girls dressed in this way ). Nevertheless , I love this long leheriya skirt by BIBA for a simple reason. It is indigo blue, it is a leheriya, it is long and it is cotton. What more can I ask for ? I believe in investing in basic pieces to create wardrobe and this skirt would be one of that investment.

My Style tip – I would wear this Indigo blue leheriya skirt with a scarlet red bandhani top . It will be a beautiful adaptation of Print on print trends capturing Indian textiles and comfort all at the same time. I would accessorize it with Kolhapuri chappals ( Kolhapuri chappals business is skyrocketing , the way I keep adding them to each outfit ), long silver junk jewellery or Dhokra jewellery from Orissa, a waistcoat in light blue denim fabric to make it chic or an intricately embroidered Kutchi work waistcoat to add extra styling element.

Global Desi SS 2014 – Rickshaw printed bright yellow jumpsuit

Global Desi SS 2014 – Rickshaw printed bright yellow jumpsuit

Global Desi brand has reinvented themselves this summer with an upbeat “Mela” vibe to their entire collection. This stunning quirky printed yellow jumpsuit is a sure shot conversation starter at any party. You wear this girl and I guarantee, you will see people turning around to watch you. The bohemian motif of “cycle rickshaw” has been used by the “Global desi” brand to infuse and reinforce the “Mela” theme of their Spring Summer 2014 collection. Is this me or do you too agree ?- Tuk Tuk , Rickshaw, long skirts, palazzo, jumpsuits – bohemia – travel !! Indian fashion brands are definitely promoting boho vibe a lot this season, can’t complain – I love it to the milky way and back.

My Style Tip : This jumpsuit doesn’t need much styling. It’s the most eclectic piece I feel Global Desi has designed. I would accessorize it with funky colored gladiators in hot pink or turquoise blue with just a little dash of gold in it. I would add a solid colored head-gear , maybe a scarf or bandana or even a hair band ( gold Grecian band) and stack up some dull gold cuffs with color pop up of blue.

Global Desi SS 2014 – Aqua Blue sheer maxi with printed bustier top.

Global Desi SS 2014 – Aqua Blue sheer maxi with printed bustier top.

I had recently written on Spring Summer Fashion Trends 2014- Sheers, highlighting how to wear this sheer trend in daily lives. Global Desi gives that blog just the right amount of justice with this aqua blue sheer maxi trend. Come Summers and I hunt my wardrobe for the best of the last season’s to check what will fit in this season. Maxi trend is one of them , stayed on since last 5 years. But this year , we saw “sheer” interpretation of it. Fluid fabrics in sheers teamed with the very Indian Mela feel infused bustier , this aqua blue sheer maxi is a must –have for Spring Summer 2014 from Global Desi.

My Style tip – I would team with beautiful kundan polki studs in my ears ,gold flat slip ons for my feet and style it with just one statement finger ring. I would do my hair in a loose side bun or a side braid for a casual yet chic evening wear.

For those of you who aren’t such a big fan of prints and bohemian vibe, fear not. AND has done a fabulous work in creating a very chic range of Summer wear. I loved AND always for its fits. I believe this was one of the first brands in India which made wearing dresses seem very effortless and stylish. The best part was , the sizes were always available. I mean , hello, lets accept it, how many of us are paper-thin like the models they show in ads ? The desire to wear the dress is there, but the size isn’t available. AND just did that right . Coming back to Summers, I am in love with their “Cinnamon Mocha” Collection and “The Blue Jay” Collection.

AND SS 2014 – Cinnamon Mocha collection

AND SS 2014 – Cinnamon Mocha collection

For those who are still the classic stylist, the “Cinnamon Mocha” collection will be a delight. Structured neat cuts , fluid fabric, pastel mocha shades equals to a stylist’s ultimate dream. For the working women this is the collection to watch out for. Shirts in ivories mixed with cinnamon, palazzo in mocha , skirt with slits in mocha , collared maxi dress in sheer – a wide range of apparel to select from. My pick out of the whole look was the middle one – Mocha palazzo with a printed shirt.

My Style tip – It’s a classic style, so let’s go to basics. I would accessorize it with nude pumps, tan belt, tan satchel, dull gold choker, hair tied neatly in a braid and the never-to-forget classic watch.

The Second collection to watch for in AND was “The Blue Jay” Collection.

AND SS 2014 – Blue Jay collection

AND SS 2014 – Blue Jay collection

A spectrum of blue shades, from Indigo to aqua, with a mix of white – Mediterranean vacation is all I can think of. Pack this gorgeous bustier maxi for the stroll by the beach, or maybe just flaunt it to a brunch if you can’t make it to the beach. It’s a trademark of AND to create a particular design fabric and then create every possible garment out of it. They did the same by making a singlet top, a waistcoat, a short dress and a maxi. More the options, better for the consumer.

My Style tip – I would team this beautiful maxi dress with a coral pink silk stole and wear it like a neck scarf . I would finish the styling with a fishtail braid, white gladiators , and a classic Tissot watch.

All of these BIBA, GLOBAL DESI and AND collection have hit the racks in the Surat’s most luxurious mall VR Surat. Yes, its situated at one end of the city but when you reach there , I bet you , it’s a delight.

You could have a look at VR Surat mall here – http://www.vrsurat.com

So while all of you lovely bunch here are headed to do your next purchases of this Spring Summer 2014 collection to Global Desi, BIBA and AND at the VR Surat , I think I’m good to go to Santorini.

Or maybe just plan it my head.

Keep Smiling and Stay Stylish.
