‘There is no substitute for being there – going into stores, interacting with staff and consumers. I went to India a few years ago for the first time and learned about the importance of weddings and bridal makeup in that part of the world. When women came in to Mac for their bridal makeup, they would pick out 15 products and then their purchases just got put into a regular bag. I thought, wait – this is obviously a very special event that our customer is coming to us for. Where is the presentation? Soon after, we set about developing a special bridal trousseau for our customers in India. It’s those little things that make an experience.’

When I first visited the store I was pleasantly surprised by the fact that Zara Surat was actually as big as the store they have in Phoenix Mills Mumbai if not bigger! Also the collection they are currently displaying is actually at par with the metros (I hope this continues). The attention to details by the merchandisers who were setting up the displays just blew me away.
